About Reta

Seaside Resort Reta takes its name from the person who was its main driving force in the twenties

The rancher Martín Reta, son of Spanish immigrants, dreamt of turning this place not only into a tourist destination but also a seaport for the Tres Arroyos district, located in Buenos Aires Province. The touristic villa is roughly 365 miles (587 kilometers) from Buenos Aires City, and 50 miles (80 kilometers) from Tres Arroyos, in Buenos Aires Province, taking Ruta Nacional 3 (National Route 3) up to km. 351 where the detour to Copetonas must be taken and, from there, a short final path along the rustic road.
The access is through some fields and farms, as well as many lagoons populated with a huge variety of herons, storks, ducks and other birds. Not far from the coast you will be able to see the first line of vast dunes covered by shrubbery.
The touristic villa is surrounded by varied and lush vegetation. Ancient maritime pines, poplars, tamarisks, eucalyptuses, cypresses, willows, pines and every kind of conifer make Reta an ideal place to enjoy nature and rest with your family. It’s impossible not to breathe the pure air smelling of eucalyptus while listening to the singing of thousands of birds and the roaring of the sea.
The seaside resort is located in the middle of a densely forested zone, ideal for camping, feeling peaceful and relaxed, really enjoying nature and liberty.
This touristic villa is quiet, safe and exclusive with buildings immersed in beautiful landscapes. For those who enjoy the good cuisine, we offer a varied gastronomy, mainly characterized by fresh and homemade food. Moreover, RETA is such a safe place that you will hardly find any grille in any of its 1700 houses and complexes.
Its beaches are composed of smooth and fine sand of vast extension, and without a doubt among the biggest of the Argentinian Atlantic Coast, and it is one of the few seaside resorts in which you can see the sun going up and down in the ocean, making for the most astounding and wonderful sunsets.
The beaches are 18 miles (30 km.) in length and approximately 200 to 400 yards wide from the dunes to the sea shore, the dunes offering shelter against the wind and an exclusive topography. The sea has warm waters, approximately five degrees warmer than the rest of the beaches along the Argentinian Atlantic Coast, since an oceanic tropical current from Brazil makes its way towards this area.
The waters are clean, green and unpolluted, due to the fact that there are no nearby structures generating neither waste nor sewer discharges. Their slope is slight and there are no trenches or ditches, making them safe to swim and particularly suitable to practice watersports.

Fishing

OThe resort offers several places to fish the wide variety of sea life that inhabits he sea, rivers, streams and lagoons, from the shore or aboard picturesque ships with crews that provide transportation service, advice and guide. Among the most distinguished we can find El Campamento, El Segundo Médano and El Barco Hundido. “La Boca”, Quequen River’s mouth that flows into the ocean and a site of special beauty, favors good fishing. Reta holds a world record; a black sea bass was caught of 105 pounds (48 kilos) weight and 5,24 feet (1,61 meters) length. This river of indescribable beauty, also called Mulpunlefu, has ravines and cascades. Its water course is one of the most important in Buenos Aires Province, not only because of its volume but also because of its length. It is born in the Ventana system and finishes in Reta’s touristic villa.
The lovers of big game hunting can fish in boats, sailing daily from the boat ramp, a variant that allows enjoying a different perspective of the beaches.
The fishing of the loach, silverside, roosterfish, dogfish, skate, smooth hound, grouper, young hake, southern kingfish, sting ray, salmon, sole and forkbeard, shark, young silverside and bulky white and black sea bass provide great sports value, with competitions and tournaments, being the foremost of all the "24 hs de la Corvina Negra" (24 hours of the Black Sea Bass).

Hunting

You can practice sport hunting in fields and farms of the area, with game such as great bustards, ducks, partridges, hares, vizcachas (Lagostomus maximus) and wild boars.

Other wonderful places

Additionally, there are other attractions such as La Gruta Virgen de Lourdes; el Monolito de Méndez y Viana; and Paso del Médano, El Molino de las Rosas and La Cascada de Cifuentes on Quequen River, el Arroyito (Albufera), and El Caracolero with its rock formation located 9 miles (15 km) to the east of the villa; these are some of the sites you won´t want to miss.
Another famous attraction is the remains of a vessel’s hull that looks like a fish spine, identified by specialists in subaquatic archeology as a ship built towards the end of the XVIII or beginnings of the XIX century, and highlighted its importance from the patrimonial, historical, educative and touristic point of view. The researchers have suggested that there might even be other ships buried under the sand in the nearby zone. This will be one of the future attractions at Reta. For the moment though, until the way to continue with the research is decided, the ship remains buried. A small group of people keep the tightly guarded coordinates taken by GPS (Global Positioning System) that give the precise location of the wreck, to find it again when necessary.
Also of note is "La Cueva del Tigre" (The Tiger’s Den), a place especially attractive because of its overwhelming landscape, its legend and mystery.
Sunbathing, swimming in crystal clear waters, having fun on the extensive beaches (sports, quad bikes rental, motorcycles, buggies, bikes, etc.), walking and horse riding along the smooth sand on the sea shore, beholding the immensity of the sky from the beach in the nights, finding the rapids and cascades along the Quequen River to sail with rafts and canoes doing rafting level 1 and a good asado (barbecue) in contact with the harmony of nature, are some of the options you shouldn’t miss.
